RESPO-VI
Development of an Expert Support System for Competency Assessment in Higher Education
OVERVIEW
To succeed in today's rapidly changing world, higher education systems must be able to quickly understand how both the economy and society as a whole is experiencing shifts. Artificial intelligence and big data can provide information about students' skills level and their potential for growth.
OVERALL GOAL
The overall goal of the project is to use a decision support system (DSS) to monitor the development of STEM students' competencies during formal and non-formal education, which they need for transition to 21st-century society. Our focus is on the development of knowledge, skills and attitudes that will help students acquire new knowledge and skills necessary for shaping solutions in technology-driven economies.
Higher Education Evolves
Higher education (HE) is on the edge of radical changes that will bring new forms of knowledge creation/transfer and competencies developed through innovative models of formal education and non-formal training. HE teachers and students will be forced to develop the competencies of Society 5.0 and Industry 4.0, as indicated by the COVID-19 pandemic, which revealed gaps between current skills and the skills the industry needs due to constant technological growth.
Student Career & Competency Boost
In 2021 the WEF (World Economic Forum) highlighted the importance of filling the gap between current education programs and the skills that employers need now and in the future. The European Commission has published a European Skills Agenda, which emphasizes developing skills for jobs through dynamic education and training programs that consider the labour market's and society's needs. This can be achieved by developing DSSs that will enable students’ career development and fill competency gaps through individualized training programs.
